Mediterranean Study Trip to Dakar 2023

Our students of the Master in Advanced European and International Studies - Mediterranean Studies were recently welcomed by our partner Sup De Co Dakar for a three-week study trip to Dakar, Senegal.

The study trip began with enlightening lectures on diplomatic negotiation techniques delivered by the Ambassador of Senegal, Amadou Diop. Throughout their stay, our students gained insights into a range of topics such as economics, sustainable development, inequality, poverty, geopolitics and conflicts in the Sub-Saharan country.

In addition to the intensive lectures and a round table discussion on the EU-Africa partnership in light of new global challenges, our students participated in institutional visits and had the opportunity to meet important figures such as the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Senegal, Jean-Marc Pisani. Our students also had to the chance to meet with two NGOs - “Action contre la Faim” and “Consortium Jeunesse”.

To fully experience and immerse themselves in the culture of the Sub-Saharan nation, our students also took part in cultural excursions. One of the most notable visits was to the National Museum of Black Civilisations, and the Ile de Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to commemorating what was once the most significant slave trading hub in Africa. This island was where numerous Africans were captured and sold into slavery, making it a significant part of African history.
