Field Trips in the South of France for the Energy Master

During their final term in Nice, our Master in Global Energy Transition and Governance students carried out their final field trips of the year in three locations in the South of France and Monaco: at the Energy Transition Department of the Monaco Government (MTE) and a meeting with Seawergie in Monaco, EDF in Martigues and Tricastin nuclear power plant.

The Energy students were welcomed in Monaco for the 6th time by Isabelle Curau-Bloch, National Pact Specialist at the MTE and Astrid Siohan, Director of Heating and District Cooling at SMEG, Monaco (Seawergie), who took turns presenting the Principality's energy transition policies and actions, with a focus on the thalassothermal loops and their contribution to reducing Monaco's greenhouse gas emissions.

Then a couple of weeks later, they visited a combined cycle gas turbine in Martigues, where they learnt how it stabilises the energy network by bringing flexibility to the French mix.

They then moved on to the Tricastin nuclear power plant with its four 900 MWe pressurised water nuclear reactors to discover more about the challenges facing nuclear power.

Thanks to MTE, Seawergie, EDF and Groupe Rouge Vif for welcoming our students and providing them with much food for thought.
