The CIFE Office in Brussels organised its 43rd "Midi du CIFE" on the 6th of November. It was the first in a new series on the Global Energy Transition, inaugurated by a distinguished guest: Mr Dominique Ristori, Director General for Energy at the European Commission, who introduced the debate on "Energy Transition at the heart of the European vision for a modern, sustainable and competitive economy".

Mr.Ristori gave a broad overview of the multi-sectoral approach and EU policies for the energy transition, whose objectives are at the heart of the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreements. According to him, great progress has already been made in terms of security of supply, solidarity interconnection, clean energy for all Europeans,... Mr. Ristori called for the integration of all dimensions of the energy transition (sustainability, quality, competitiveness, price, job creation, fight against fuel poverty) into truly European solutions with a broad geopolitical reach. "It is imperative to stop 'pulverizing' research and investment efforts across Europe! "said the Director General for Energy.

A rich debate with the fifty participants made it possible to contest the idea that the energy transition, "a challenge for humanity," would be contradictory or harmful to economic growth; rather, it would be a question of moving towards "healthy and clean" growth on a global scale with a strong support from the populations. The shared feeling was that, to succeed, the energy transition must become the number one priority on the investors' agenda and bring together individual, private and public actors across all territorial levels.
