Master in Advanced European & International Studies (MAEIS) - Applied European Policy and Governance Studies

Teaching Languages: English and French.
In addition, students can choose a trilingual option with special German language courses and a focus on German EU policies
Duration: A one-year programme from October to July in 3 different cities
Study Destinations: Nice, Canterbury and Berlin
Option: Optional professional internship (max. 3 months to be completed by 30 September) + report
Credits: 60 ECTS (+ 30 ECTS internship)

Entry Requirements & How to Apply

• For students who have completed their undergraduate studies.
• An active language proficiency is required in both languages. 
English: minimum C1, French: minimum B2
For the trilingual option - German: minimum B1/B2

Overview of the Academic Year

Trimester 1 in Nice (France): October to December
Courses, workshops, European Council simulation and mid-term exams.

Trimester 2 in Canterbury (United Kingdom): January to March
Choice of two modules at the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent.
Day trip to London with expert briefings.
Extended study trip to the European institutions and international organisations in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

Trimester 3 in Berlin (Germany): April to July
Courses and workshops, institutional visits, additional courses and briefings for the trilingual option. Finalising research work, written exams, defence of the thesis, final oral exams, graduation ceremony.

Students can take a trilingual option which will be mentioned on the transcript of records and a separate certificate of achievement. Students who choose the trilingual option will attend additional courses (taught in German) on Germany's European policy, the federal structure of Germany and the European policy of the German Länder. It will also encompass visits to the Bundestag, Federal Ministries and Representations of a federal state in Berlin. The trilingual option entails an extra written assignment in German on a topic related to Germany's European policy. Students not taking the trilingual option can also participate in these activities on a voluntary basis.

From July to SeptemberOptional internship (2.5 to 3 months) to be completed by 30 September of the current year.

The programme encompasses four academic teaching modules, professional skills workshops, academic skills workshops, career coaching and networking events, language classes, a study trip and various excursions. International guest lecturers, experts from various European and international organisations, as well as researchers from partner institutions contribute to the programme.

Teaching Methods
The programme offers problem-focused learning at the crossroads of theory and practice. Students gain a strong academic background and are prepared for the job market through a variety of trainings in professional and practical skills.

Fees & Funding

CIFE is a private, non-profit European institute of higher education. We belong to the six designated institutions receiving special funding by the European Union in the framework of the Jean Monnet programme.

Thanks to this grant by the European Union, each CIFE student benefits from significantly reduced study fees. Those fees not only cover tuition and mentoring, but also the accommodation in Berlin, travel costs to/from Canterbury and Berlin as well as the study trip to Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

The overall tuition fees of the Master of Advanced European and International Studies - Applied European Policy and Governance Studies – amount to 8,900 €.

Scholarships to cover the total or partial costs of tuition and living expenses can be granted by different organisations. Moreover, CIFE is able to offer different scholarships to qualified students in need.

Degree & Title

Graduates receive two certifications:

- The Master in Advanced European and International Studies - Applied European Policy and Governance Studies. This is the diploma of CIFE as a private institute of higher education, certifying the successful completion of the academic curriculum and granting 60 ECTS at Master level.

- The degree qualification "Policy Officer in European and International organisations" (level 7 EQF), recognised by the French state.
