EU expertise for professionals: e-learning at any time and any place.
The European Online Academy (EOA) in cooperation with the Jean Monnet-Chair of Political Science of the University of Cologne and other partners has developed two postgraduate programmes:
Blended learning for professionals
The EOA allows the participants to deepen and to supplement their knowledge of the EU integration process by applying blended learning methods through a combination of e-learning and concentrated face-to-face learning phases (at weekends mainly).
Thus the programmes are an ideal training and an additional qualification for young professionals, postgraduates and junior officials interested in/or already working in the field of European integration. The programmes offer an outstanding opportunity for young professionals to continue their studies while pursuing their careers at the same time.
Renowned experts
The programmes involve recognised experts with academic and practical backgrounds who present their courses online and during the presence workshops.
Features and tools
The specially designed e-learning platform stores all course materials and enables constant interaction among participants as well as between experts and participants. Communication occurs via forums.
Methodology
The study material shall be delivered in the form of online courses, supplemented by workshops. The participants will acquire the contents of the online courses through self-study. The study progress will be controlled by online discussions, assignments and exams.
Workshops
The face-to-face workshops, which complement the virtual activities of the EOA, take place in different European capitals like Berlin, Rome, Budapest or Brussels, where the participants also meet national decision makers.
Objectives
Both programmes offer an accurate blend of theoretical and practical knowledge.
In the first yearparticipants gain an enhanced knowledge of recent developments in the European integration process. After having successfully completed the first year, the participants obtain the Certificate in EU Studies Online. In order to specialise in one of the core subjects (Politics, Economics and EU Law), the participants may join the second year of the Master programme – whereby the general approach to the issues and tasks is an interdisciplinary one. After having submitted and presented a Master thesis they are awarded the Master in EU Studies Online (60 ECTS).

The next academic year will start in October 2010.
Fee:
The participation fee is 3600 Euro per year. This amount covers the educational and technical support, the use of the special internet workspace and board and lodging during the four workshops. A limited number of scholarships to reduce the inscription fee is available. The amount granted will depend on the individual student's financial situation.
